Overview
"Tormato" is the ninth studio album by the legendary English progressive rock band Yes, released in 1978. This album marks the final collaboration between the band and both singer Jon Anderson and keyboardist Rick Wakeman before their departures in 1980. Following the success of their previous album Going for the One (1977), the band faced internal struggles during the making of Tormato, including disagreements over its musical direction and the album's artwork. The departure of long-time engineer Eddy Offord also led to Yes producing the album themselves.
Despite the challenges, Tormato became a commercial success. It reached No. 8 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 10 on the US Billboard 200. It quickly achieved platinum status in the US, selling over a million copies within two months. Tracks like "Release, Release" and "Don't Kill the Whale" were released as singles, with "Don't Kill the Whale" reaching No. 36 in the UK. Yes toured the album with their innovative 1978–1979 "round" stage, marking the first time they performed with a revolving stage in concerts. The album was later remastered in 2004 with previously unreleased material from the recording sessions.
