Wilbert Hazelzet (born 20 November 1948 in The Hague) is a Dutch flutist specialized in the baroque repertoire performed with period instruments (or modern replicas of period instruments).
After obtaining his secondary school diploma, Hazelzet worked in several libraries and pursued an education as a nurse. Encouraged by Kees Otten, Frans Vester and Frans Brüggen, he started playing the transverse flute in 1970, and in 1978 he became a member of the Musica Antiqua Köln ensemble, directed by Reinhard Goebel. Starting in 1985, Hazelzet became the solo flutist at Ton Koopman's Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra.
He has recorded all the chamber music and almost all the flute solos from the cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach. He has also interpreted works by Telemann, Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, Mozart and others. His interpretation of the flute sonatas by Bach (recorded with Jacques Ogg and Jaap ter Linden for Spain's independent classical music Glossa label) has been called "a stimulating release" by the BBC's official Classical Music magazine.
His trio with Jacques Ogg (harpsichord) and Konrad Junghänel (lute) plays regularly. Hazelnut is also professor of transverse flute at Royal Conservatory of The Hague.
