Overview
"白毛女" is a classic film adapted from the opera of the same name by He Jingzhi and Ding Yi. Set in 1935 in a remote rural village in North China, the film tells the tragic story of Xi'er, the daughter of poor farmer Yang Bailao, who falls in love with young farmer Wang Dachun. The landlord Huang Shiren becomes infatuated and pressures Yang Bailao for debt repayment, leading to Yang's forced suicide and Xi'er's subsequent rape. After escaping to the mountains, Xi'er’s hair turns white from the trauma. Following the liberation, she seeks justice and ultimately finds redemption.
