WHAT THE BIBLE TEACHES is a series of commentaries published with a view to opening up in a clear concise manner the teaching of the New Testament. The contributors are well known Bible expositors, having ministered the Word and conducted Bible Readings in many of the English speaking countries of the world. The style is both expository and practical. Each commentary has been written specifically for the series, and has not been taken from tapes or culled from other publications. To the enquiring mind this and companion volumes in the series are a storehouse of divine truth, being the outcome of many years of study and experience.
Contributor FRED STALLAN
Publishers note:
Fred Stallan was converted in the early 1940's in the city of Glasgow, from which time he diligently gave himself to the study of the Scriptures. He was self-taught in Greek, but Spirit taught in the Word, thus fitting him to engage in a very necessary sphere of service for his Lord and over the years he became widely appreciated and respected by many of the Lord's people for his clear presentation of scripture. This afforded to him the privilege of preaching and teaching at many assembly gatherings, both large and small, throughout the British Isles and further afield.
The commentary on Romans was written during a period of increasing weakness and discomfort. He had willingly undertaken the task just a short time before his illness was diagnosed in the spring of 1996, and the publishers are grateful to the Lord for enabling him to complete it just a few months before calling him Home on the 1st January 1998.
The editors willingly took up Mr Stallan's first draft and have completed their work without access to what, under normal circumstances, would have been the patient and helpful cooperation of the author. This was no easy task for them as they endeavoured to ensure that the completed work accurately reflected the teaching of the author, and the publishers are greatly indebted to them for working on the manuscript so carefully. This volume brings to a fitting conclusion the helpful New Testament Series of What The Bible Teaches and the publishers wish to place on record their deep appreciation of the editors' valuable contribution over the years to this work, and trust that it will continue to be used for the Lord's glory and for the instruction of His people.
