The predecessor of Waltz was the Austrian "Rondelet", which was called Waltz because of the need for two people to spin in pairs during the dance. It became popular in Vienna in the eighties of the eighteenth century. With its passionate and emotional music, it brought a new look and active atmosphere to the city's dance music. According to statistics, the total population of Vienna was around 200,000 at the time, while the city's dance floor could accommodate 50,000 people, which means that a quarter of the city's population was infected with the so-called "waltz virus". Waltz music spread throughout Europe in the 1840s, replacing other dance music as the most popular dance music genre for more than 100 years, and in the course of its creation, it gradually developed into two types of dance music: the practical waltz for accompanying dancers and the artistic waltz for concert performers.
This album contains one of the most famous of the more than 400 waltzes composed by the "King of Waltzes", Johann Strauss Jr.: "The Blue Danube", which is known as the "Second Austrian National Anthem". It is said that with this song, people on both sides of the Danube suddenly realized that the Danube is "blue"! It is also performed as a reserved piece at the annual New Year's Concert in Vienna.
The classic waltz, performed by one of the world's leading orchestras and conducted by Charles Groves, is featured on this recording!
