Vilmos Szabadi, (born 1959) is a Hungarian violinist. In 2020 the ‘Artist of Merit’ prize was given him by the Hungarian Government. In 2018 the Bartók-Pásztory prize was awarded him. He is the double prize winner (1999, 2002) of the prestigious MIDEM Festival in Cannes, FRANCE. “PRIMA”, Franz Liszt, HUNGAROTON prized artist. Head of Violin Department of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of music, Budapest. So far 59 CDs were released by his contribution, mainly by HUNGAROTON record company. He is invited whole over the world giving master classes as Tokyo, Helsinki, Austria, Singapore and USA etc. In the previous years he is steady Jury members of leading international violin competitions. Szabadi studied under Professor Ferenc Halász at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest where on receiving his diploma, he became the youngest-ever member to join the teaching staff. Then he studied, after graduation, with Sándor Végh, Ruggiero Ricci and Loránt Fenyves. In 1982 he won first prize (with special mention) in the Hungarian Radio Violin Competition and the following year in the Jenő Hubay competition in Budapest. In 1985 Szabadi was awarded third prize at the international Jean Sibelius Violin Competition in Finland where he has since been invited to perform regularly and to give master classes.

Szabadi Vilmos (Budapest, 1959. március 10.) Érdemes Művész, Bartók - Pásztory, Liszt Ferenc-díjas magyar hegedűművész, kétszeres MIDEM, Príma, HUNGAROTON díjas előadóművész, tanszakvezető egyetemi docens. Hangszere egy cremonai mesterhegedű – Laurentius Storionitól, 1778-ból, a Magyar Állam kollekciójából való.

Világkarrierje 1988-ban indult: a Royal Festival Hall Bartók Béla tiszteletére rendezett gálakoncertjén Bartók: 2. hegedűversenyét játszotta Solti Györggyel, ezt a BBC és a Decca rögzítette, majd a Philips világszerte megjelentette.

1990-ben a londoni Royal Filharmonikus Zenekar-, 1992-ben a BBC Philharmonic-, majd az Ír Koncert Zenekarral lép fel. Október 22-én egyetlen magyar állampolgárként játszott – Msztyiszlav Rosztropovics, Plácido Domingo, Kiri Te Kanawa és Jeffray Tate társaságában – Solti György 80. születésnapi koncertjén a Buckingham-palotában, a teljes brit uralkodóház jelenlétében.

1995-ben a spanyol uralkodóház Stradivari hegedűjén játszott. Ugyanabban az évben mint művészeti vezető, megalapította a nyaranta megrendezett Kastély Kamara Koncertek hangversenysorozatot. 1996-ban a HUNGAROTON Classic – egyetlen magyar hegedűművészként – exkluzív szerződést kötött vele. Napjainkig 58 CD/LP/CDV jelent meg a nevével fémjelezve.

1999-ben megalakította a Wiener Belvedere Trio kamaraegyüttesét. Az elmúlt évek folyamán számtalan mesterkurzust adott világszerte, Európában, a Távol-Keleten, valamint az Egyesült Államokban.
