Overview

Oberto, Conte di San Bonifacio is Giuseppe Verdi's first published opera, written when the composer was in his 20s. This historical work, set in 13th century Italy, premiered at La Scala in 1839, marking the beginning of Verdi’s long and illustrious career. Even in this early work, Verdi's genius for melody and drama shines through, laying the foundation for his later masterpieces.

This 2007 production, captured in High Definition, features Ildar Abdrazakov as Oberto, Evelyn Herlitzius as Leonora, and Carlo Ventre as Riccardo. Conducted by Yves Abel and directed by Ignacio García, the performance is supported by the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias and the Chorus of Opera de Bilbao. The opera's tale of honor, betrayal, and revenge is masterfully brought to life through Domenico Franchi's set and costume designs, enhanced by Vinicio Cheli's atmospheric lighting.

This DVD includes additional features such as interviews with Yves Abel and Ignacio García, providing insight into the production, as well as an illustrated synopsis and cast gallery.
