In an astonishing act of theatrical archaeology, Josep Mestres Cabanes's legendary 1945 production of Aida at the Gran Teatre del Liceu has been lovingly restored and once more presented to the public. A dramatic, visceral and magical staging, it was one of the few productions to survive a disastrous fire in 1994, and after painstaking repairs was returned to the stage in 2003. Internationally acclaimed husband-and-wife team Daniela Dessi and Fabio Armiliato sing the roles of Aida and her lover Radames, while celebrated baritone Juan Pons takes the role of Aida's father Amonasro.
