P. DAVID ROMES is a United States Army veteran. He served in the headquarters command of the Southern European Task Force in Italy and in the 8th Infantry Division in Germany. He earned an undergraduate degree with distinction in Philosophy from the University of Minois, Champaign-Urbana, a Masters of Arts in History from the University of Alabama, Birmingham, and a Doctor of Philosophy in History with highest honors, from Texas A&M University, College Station 
 
Dr. Romei is the author of several books of poetry and is the Poet Laureate of Birmingham. He has delivered scholarly papers all over the world and has been honored at the Alabama Historical Association and the University of Leeds in England. For his work in Alabama, the Governor commissioned him an Honorary Admiral and appointed him to the Alabama State Council on the Arts. In Texas he has been honored by the State Senate, several county governments and cities for his work in arts and cultural leadership. He is a member of the Honor Society for International Scholars and the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, Texas A&M University's most prestigious academic honor society. In 1994, Dr. Romei became the youngest alumnus ever to receive the University of Illinois Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award. On November 14, 2002, the United States Congress published "A Tribute to Dr. Romei" in the United States Congressional Record for his leadership in the arts and for his work to honor American veterans. Dr. Romel's key. note address for Veterans Day was published in its entirety by the United States House of Representatives, an extremely rare honor. In reference In Dr. Romel's work, former President George Bush wrote, "I want to congratulate Dr. P. David Romei, Executive Director of the Arts Council of Brazos Valley, whose enthusiasm and direction have made this memorial a reality."
