Overview

"The Two Eyes of Horus: Dreampaths of Music" is a unique film project that combines the music of Western European culture with the art and philosophy of ancient Egypt. Conducted by Giuseppe Sinopoli and performed by the Dresden Staatskapelle, the program features works by Arnold Schönberg, Richard Strauss, Robert Schumann, Richard Wagner, and Ludwig van Beethoven.

The film is directed by Barrie Gavin and produced by Hessischer Rundfunk, Radio Bremen and RM Associates for ARTE. Sinopoli, who was also a composer, teacher, physician and archaeologist, conceived the project out of his fascination with Egyptology. The film explores the connections between music and the hieroglyphs of ancient Egypt, with Sinopoli stating that "the Egyptians used hieroglyphs to create their world; the composer relies on notes."
