Overview:
The Siege of Leningrad is one of the most harrowing episodes of the Second World War. This DVD from the landmark television series "Battlefield" tells the story of the 890-day siege of the Soviet Union's second city, which has come to epitomize the misery, suffering, and savagery of the war on the Eastern Front. The city was not finally liberated by Soviet troops until the 19th of January 1944, by which time 600,000 of its citizens had starved to death, and 200,000 more had perished in the bombing.
The DVD features rare archive footage from all over the world, informative maps and graphics, and a review of the political and military situation before the battle. It also includes portraits of leaders and commanders, an explanation of weapons and tactics, and the story of the battle itself.
