However, the King's half-brother, the demented Michael (played by Kemp), believes he is the rightful heir and sends an assassin to eliminate the potential threats to his claim.

Meanwhile, a cab driver named Sydney (or Sidney) Frewin (also played by Sellers), who is secretly the King's half-brother from an affair with a British actress, inadvertently saves Rudolf from an assassination attempt. When the striking resemblance between Frewin and the King is noticed, General Sapt hires Frewin to act as a decoy for Rudolf, ostensibly as the King's coachman.

The plan quickly unravels when Michael's henchmen attack, and the royal guards mistakenly address Frewin as their new king. This leads to a series of comedic and adventurous encounters as the two look-alikes become acquainted and navigate the ensuing chaos.
