Almon Wright draws on new evidence to reassess the Pollanlo brothers' multi-faceted activity as painters, sculptors and designers and to set these work in the context of the changing social, political and cultural life of both Medicean Florence and papal Rome. Wright. comiders Antonio's and Piero's visual and thematic innovations as well as the ways in which the brothers production provides insights into the inter-relation of painting, goldanith work and sculpture. In a series of revelatory chapters on thenies ranging from portraiture to the design of bronze statuettes, the author shows how the brothers' self-conscious development of dotinct products in precious or novel media bodh informed their figure style and opened new markets for their work.
