Overview

Oscar Wilde's only novel, "The Picture of Dorian Gray," caused a scandal in polite society when it was published in 1890. Dorian Gray is a wealthy English gentleman who increasingly indulges in extravagance and crime. Obsessed with his own physical beauty, Dorian buys eternal youth—at the cost of his soul. He does not age, and his decadent lifestyle has no effect on him, but his painted portrait hides the horrifying truth.
