Word from the Publishers:

The intent of this new Study Bible is to make the Scriptures an open and rewarding book for the serious and committed Bible student, while at the same time presenting a meaningful Bible for the general reader. This is the first major work of its kind in nearly half a century, and the publisher is pleased to present the labors of learned and reverent men who have sought to clarify the meaning of the Scriptures and bring the treasures of God's Holy Word into the possession of the reader. To that end, the following special features are provided

The text, of course, is that of the authorized edition of 1611 commonly called the King James Version. Read-A-Long References are placed at the end of each verse for the convenience of the reader rather than in the more common center column. This allows for faster, more accurate use of these helps. In addi- tion, Read-A-Long Translations are also placed at the end of applicable verses, and these are in italics to set them off from the text. Such translations are either alternate words, or phrases which clarify or amplify the King James text. They also help avoid a misunderstanding of the meaning of the Scriptures by using a word from modern speech which is a more easily understood translation of the original language. The reader will find this arrangement much easier and faster to use than similar aids currently being published. In addition, he will gain most of the advantages of many modern translations while retaining the authorized King James text.

Immediately before each book of the Bible there is an introduction and outline of that book. These introductions are as brief as is consistent with the need, and the outlines are designed to give the reader a quick overview of the book.

The period between the Old and the New Testament is treated fully and concisely in the definitive Between the Testaments Section. This feature is designed to give the Bible student an understanding of this important period so he can properly relate history and the Holy Word.

The self-pronouncing type is designed to be as simple and accurate as practicable. Spelling in this edition of the text follows modern approved usage.

The Cyclopedic Index is one of the major study aids in this edition. A a concordance, reference system, and index, but is better than any of them separately or all put together in some manner. With the Cyclopedic Index, the serious Bible student will find the riches of the Word unfolding before his for a message, will find the Cyclopedic Index one of the most helpful tools to eyes in logical fashion. The busy pastor or speaker, searching the Scriptures the explication of the Scriptures available in published form today.

An extremely important study feature is the Christian Life Study Out. lines and Notes on major doctrines of the Bible. These fifteen outlines cover the major teachings of the New Testament and literally help you open the Bible to the point by point development of each doctrine. With the study notes at the bottom of the pages, you actually cover the material of an advanced course in systematic theology, but in a much easier and clearer manner.

No study Bible would be complete without some aid for the sincere Christian in the matter of sharing his faith. For this purpose there is a concise and clear How to Witness Guide as outline number fifteen in the Christian Life Study Outlines and Notes.

For convenience in Bible study, the reader is referred to the major classifications of Bible Study Helps found in THE OPEN BIBLE. These helps provide a wealth of information normally found only in a complete library of books. Now they are yours in this new study Bible.

There is an extensive article on The English Bible and Its Development. Of special interest is the article The Greatest Archaeological Discoveries of the 20th Century.

Messianic Prophecies are indicated in THE OPEN BIBLE by starring the ap- propriate passage. A solid star is used throughout the Old Testament to indicate a prophecy later fulfilled in Jesus Christ. An outline star is used throughout the New Testament to indicate a prophecy that has been fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

This study edition of the Holy Bible is intended to make it an open Book to the reverent reader. It is hoped that this unique edition will truly make the Scriptures plain enough so all can have an Open Bible.
