It stars Richard Harris as Claude Frollo, Salma Hayek as Esmeralda and Mandy Patinkin as Quasimodo, the titular hunchback of Notre Dame.

XV. századi Párizsban három férfiú száll versenybe Esmeralda, az igéző cigánylány kegyeiért: Gringoire, az idealista csavargó, Don Frollo, a fanatikus pap és a halmozottan hátrányos helyzetű harangozó, Quasimodo. Esmeralda, hogy megmentse a cigánytábor lincselésétől Gringoire-t, nőül megy hozzá. Frollo szinte beleőrül a vágyakozásába. De ha már nem lehet övé alantas vágyai tárgya, szerinte jobb, ha pusztul a "sátáni" nő.
