The deepest impression given to me by our friend and colleague Klaus Bockmuehl was the rich integrity of his obedience to the Word of God. This was clearly expressed in the daily guidance he sought from the Scriptures. As he wrote in his diary, 'The first hour of the day belongs to God, just as the first day of the week. Our work must be illuminated from within by our fellowship and con- tact with Christ' (January 1989). The previous month he wrote also in his diary: 'I want to go on living so that others might benefit from my communion with Christ.' He also spoke of his personal ministry in the words of the psalmist referring to those who, passing through 'the
Valley of Baca, make it a place of springs' (Ps. 84:6)."
