Overview

"The Big Bus" is a 1976 comedy film directed by James Frawley. The film centers around Coyote Bus Lines, where a team of scientists and designers is racing against time to complete Cyclops, a state-of-the-art articulated jumbo bus designed for a groundbreaking non-stop service between New York City and Denver.

However, chaos ensues when the bus's engine is equipped with nuclear fuel, leading to a catastrophic bomb explosion that critically injures Professor Baxter, the lead scientist on the project. Though Cyclops remains intact, Coyote Lines loses both its driver and co-driver in the incident.

In a twist of fate, Kitty Baxter, the professor's daughter and the designer of Cyclops, must turn to Dan Torrance, an old flame and once-promising driver. Torrance has fallen from grace after a disastrous incident where he crashed his bus atop Mount Diablo and was accused of cannibalism after the crash. He insists that he survived by eating only the bus's seats and luggage, and that he accidentally consumed part of a passenger's foot.

With the help of "Shoulders" O'Brien, Torrance narrowly escapes an attack from vengeful fellow drivers and is ultimately recruited to drive Cyclops, setting the stage for a comedic and adventurous journey.
