Overview

"The Best of the Times" is a 1986 American comedy-drama film directed by Roger Spottiswoode and written by Ron Shelton. The film stars Robin Williams and Kurt Russell as two friends who attempt to relive a pivotal high school football game.

The story revolves around Jack Dundee (Williams), a banker who is haunted by what he considers the most humiliating moment of his life: dropping a perfectly thrown pass in the final seconds of the 1972 high school football game between Taft and their arch-rivals, Bakersfield, which ended in a scoreless tie. Since that day, Jack has struggled to move on from this event, working for his father-in-law, The Colonel, who is Bakersfield's biggest supporter and frequently reminds him of the game.

Thirteen years later, Jack persuades Reno Hightower (Russell), the quarterback from that fateful game and now a struggling garage owner in debt to Jack's bank, to help him replay the game. Jack convinces supporters from both towns to re-stage the game, aiming to revitalize Taft and improve their marriages in the process.
