Overview
"Szirmok, virágok, koszorúk" is a deeply moving historical drama by Lugossy László, awarded the prestigious Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. Set in the aftermath of the 1849 surrender at Világos, the film delves into themes of resistance, loyalty, and moral struggle during one of Hungary’s most tumultuous periods.
The story follows Majláth Ferenc, a former hussar lieutenant, played by Cserhalmi György, who is conscripted into a penal battalion following the desertion of his commanding officer, "The Colonel." After his discharge through the intervention of a powerful relative, Ferenc succumbs to apathy, only to be drawn into the revolutionary underground by a returning "Colonel," who now organizes resistance against oppression. With a haunting vision of defiance represented as blooming flowers, Ferenc's journey culminates in a tragic family betrayal.
