Plot Summary

English:
The film tells the story of the Gao family, where the third master arranges a marriage for his daughter Shuying to an irresponsible and unworthy man. Shuying, influenced by her progressive brothers Juehui and Juemin, yearns for freedom in marriage but is unable to resist her father’s tyranny. Meanwhile, Juexin, another family member, suffers heartbreak when his beloved cousin is forced into a marriage with a morally corrupt man and dies of depression. Juexin’s son also dies due to the family’s refusal to seek Western medical treatment.

As Shuying’s wedding date approaches, she decides to escape, supported by her siblings. Juexin, finally awakened by the tragedy around him, gives Shuying the money meant for her dowry, enabling her to start a new life.
