Overview

Song of Youth is a compelling Chinese drama film adapted from the novel by Yang Mo. Set against the backdrop of pre-World War II China, the story follows Ling Daojing, a young female student who faces immense personal turmoil. Pressured by her landlord’s forced marriage and unable to find work in Beidaihe, she attempts suicide by jumping into the river. Fortunately, she is saved by Yu Yongze, and they marry.

However, Ling’s life takes a transformative turn when she meets Lu Jiacuan, a member of the Communist Party. His ideals inspire her to recognize that the true path for intellectuals lies in joining the Anti-Japanese Salvation Movement. Motivated by the courage and sacrifice of Lu Jiacuan and other Communist Party members, she becomes deeply involved in political activism. Eventually, Ling Daojing joins the Chinese Communist Party and rises as one of the leaders of the January 29th Student Movement.

This powerful film chronicles her journey from despair to empowerment, emphasizing the themes of resilience, activism, and the pursuit of justice.
