Overview

"Son of the Pink Panther," directed by Blake Edwards, is a 1993 comedy that continues the legacy of the beloved Pink Panther franchise. The film stars Roberto Benigni as Jacques Gambrelli, the illegitimate son of the late Inspector Jacques Clouseau.

The story unfolds when Princess Yasmin of Lugash (Debrah Farentino) is kidnapped in French territorial waters off the coast of Nice by terrorists led by the mercenary Hans (Robert Davi). Their goal is to force her father to abdicate the throne, allowing her disgraced stepmother's lover, a military general with connections to an unfriendly neighboring kingdom, to seize power.

Police Commissioner Dreyfus (Herbert Lom) is assigned to solve the case of the kidnapped princess. While investigating her disappearance in the South of France, Dreyfus encounters the bumbling Gambrelli, who mistakenly believes he is helping with a routine police matter. Gambrelli inadvertently witnesses the princess in the back of the kidnappers' van, thinking she is the driver's sister en route to the hospital.

As the story unfolds, Gambrelli's clumsiness leads to comedic situations, including a mishap with his bicycle getting stuck in wet cement. When Hans learns of Gambrelli's sighting, he sends his henchmen to eliminate him. Dreyfus intervenes, and together they navigate the chaos that ensues, with Gambrelli's true lineage as Clouseau's son adding another layer to the mix.
