Rough Magic (Hungarian: Különös varázslat) is a 1995 comedy film directed by Clare Peploe and stars Bridget Fonda and Russell Crowe. The screenplay is co-written by Robert Mundi, William Brookfield, and Clare Peploe, and is based on the 1944 novel Miss Shumway Waves a Wand by British novelist James Hadley Chase. This novel was previously adapted into the 1962 French-Argentine film Une blonde comme ça.

Set in the 1950s, the film follows an apprentice magician, Jane (Bridget Fonda), who escapes to Mexico to avoid marrying her wealthy politician fiancé. Jane seeks out a Mayan shaman to learn the ancient principles of magic. However, she is being pursued by Detective (Russell Crowe), a former photojournalist who has been traumatized by his experiences in Hiroshima. He has been hired by her fiancé to follow her.

As Jane embarks on her journey, she and the detective eventually team up in search of the Mayan shaman. Throughout their adventure, they encounter various challenges and obstacles, leading to unexpected romantic feelings developing between them.The film combines elements of comedy and adventure, exploring themes of self-discovery, love, and the mystical aspects of magic, all while set against the vibrant backdrop of Mexico.
