The question I needed to answer was why the Brethren in the United States are declining so rapidly. I began to ask certain questions of those I met who had left the Brethren. Finally I made a more formal study and interviewed not only the disenchanted I discovered, but also current leaders in the assemblies.... Regaining the original vision of the Brethren and rediscovery of biblical principles which created the movement is an imperative for the Brethren today if we are not going to decline into oblivion. So this study puts forth an analysis of the early understanding of the Brethren and with modern applications of these biblical methods for renewal today. By evaluating the local assem bly we posit some conclusions that will lead us to make some specific strategies which we trust will be helpful to all who look for real renewal within and without the Brethren.
