World-renowned for her "heartfelt expression and unapologetic physicality" (The New York Times), Violet Stein is the only American cellist of international stature and the first female cellist ever to receive international attention in the United States.
She began her cello career with the Cleveland Orchestra at the age of thirteen and is currently a resident musician at the New England Conservatory in Boston.
She began her cello studies at the age of four, and at thirteen she performed Tchaikovsky's "Variations on a Rococo Theme" with the Cleveland Orchestra. Her father, Donna Weilerstein, is a member of the Cleveland Orchestra. Her father, Donna Weilerstein, was a founding member of the Cleveland Orchestra and first violinist of the quartet. Her mother, Vivian Hornik, is also a renowned pianist. Her family's pedigree led to an early interest in and passion for the modern repertoire, and she worked closely with renowned contemporary composers such as Osvaldo Golijov, for whom she premiered the cello concerto "Azure". He has received the Everly Fisher Prize, the Bernstein Prize, and the MacArthur Foundation's Genius Award. Despite being a highly acclaimed new talent, But Violetta don't want to go to the Music Academy. Like Yo-Yo Ma, she chose to study humanities at an Ivy League school and is pursuing Russian history at Columbia University. Her previous recordings were all trio recordings with her parents, except for one modern cello concerto in which she was the soloist, described by BBC Music Magazine as "one of the most extraordinary soloists of her generation".
Violetta's highly personal and romantic performance was characterized by a wealth of emotion, lyricism and long phrases, as well as by her sublime expression, which was both charismatic and poignant. The Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Belonlavec, is also vibrant, colorful, and graceful, with a vividly painted impression that strikes at the heart of the work's passion. In the recording, the microphone is placed in the center to highlight the cello, so that the soloist's voice will not be drowned out by the ensemble, which further demonstrates the fullness of the sound and the lyrical nature of the singing.
