Overview
This visually stunning production of Wagner's Das Rheingold, part of Der Ring des Nibelungen, was staged by the avant-garde Catalan theater group La Fura dels Baus and filmed at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia. The production, conducted by the world-renowned Zubin Mehta, combines Wagner’s vision of a Gesamtkunstwerk (total work of art) with La Fura dels Baus’s imaginative use of multimedia, including computer projections, organic structures, and dynamic sets built with human performers, reminiscent of Cirque du Soleil.
The cast is led by Juha Uusitalo as Wotan, whose portrayal of the king of the gods was hailed as remarkable by critics. Franz-Josef Kapellmann's Alberich and John Daszak's Loge deliver strong performances, with Matti Salminen as Fasolt and Stephen Milling as Fafner bringing immense gravitas to their roles.
