Overview
Red Sonja is a 1985 sword and sorcery action film directed by Richard Fleischer. The film stars Brigitte Nielsen in the title role, alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger as Lord Kalidor. Based on the popular Marvel Comics character created by Roy Thomas, Red Sonja first appeared in the Conan the Barbarian series in 1973. The character is inspired by Robert E. Howard's creation, Red Sonya of Rogatino, featured in his short story "The Shadow of the Vulture" (1934).
Set in the Hyborian Age, a fictional prehistoric era also depicted in previous Conan films, the story follows Red Sonja as she seeks revenge against the tyrannical Queen Gedren, who has murdered her family using a powerful talisman. Sworn to never fall in love unless she meets someone stronger than herself, Sonja embarks on a perilous journey, eventually crossing paths with Kalidor, who possesses extraordinary strength.
