Professional Writing: The Academic Context is a textbook on writing skills development for university students who have to write course assignments and thesis papers in English. Because it does not assume specialist knowledge, the textbook is suitable for humanities undergraduate students, but it can also serve as a compact resource for graduate students and can be used as an introductory textbook to academic writing in a variety of disciplines. Combining theoretical and empirical research results from composition studies, argumentation theory, linguistics, and especially written discourse analysis, the textbook explores the stages of the writing process and equips students with indispensable knowledge for composing academic texts. The concepts discussed in the textbook along with the sample texts and the tasks included are informed by the academic writing skills courses and lectures taught by the author over the past thirteen years.
