Pillow Talk is a 1959 American romantic comedy film in CinemaScope directed by Michael Gordon. It features Rock Hudson, Doris Day, Tony Randall, Thelma Ritter, and Nick Adams. The film was written by Russell Rouse, Maurice Richlin, Stanley Shapiro, and Clarence Greene.

It tells the story of Jan Morrow (Day), an interior decorator and Brad Allen (Hudson), a womanizing composer/bachelor, who share a telephone party line. When she unsuccessfully files a complaint on him for constantly using the line to woo his conquests, Brad decides to take a chance on Jan by masquerading as a Texas rancher, resulting in the two falling in love. The scheme seems to work until Brad's mutual friend and Jan's client Jonathan Forbes (Randall) finds out about this, causing a love triangle in the process.

Jan Morrow is a successful, self-reliant interior decorator in New York City. She lives alone and claims to be quite happy, when questioned on that subject by her drunken housekeeper, Alma. The only irritant in her life is the party line that she shares with Brad Allen, a talented, creative Broadway composer and playboy who lives in a nearby apartment building. She is unable to obtain a private phone line because the telephone company has been overwhelmed by the recent demand for new phone lines in the area.

Jan and Brad, who have only ever "met" on the telephone, develop a feud over the use of the party line. Brad is constantly using the phone to chat with one young woman after another, singing to each of them an "original" love song supposedly written just for her, though he only changes the name or language he sings in. Jan and Brad bicker over the party line, with Brad suggesting that the single Jan is jealous of his popularity.

One of Jan's clients is millionaire Jonathan Forbes, who repeatedly throws himself at her to no avail. Unknown to Jan, Jonathan is also Brad's old college buddy and his current Broadway benefactor.

Es handelt sich um die erste aus einer Reihe von drei Komödien mit dem Trio Rock Hudson, Doris Day und Tony Randall in den Hauptrollen. Es folgten die gemeinsamen Filme Ein Pyjama für zwei und Schick mir keine Blumen.

Die Innenarchitektin Jan Morrow und der Komponist Brad Allen müssen sich einen Telefonanschluss teilen. Das bedeutet im New York der 1950er Jahre, dass die Betroffenen zwar in verschiedenen Häusern wohnen und einander niemals kennenlernen, aber sich gegenseitig zuhören und sogar ins Wort fallen können, wenn einer mit einem Dritten telefoniert. Und Brad belegt ständig die Leitung, um mit seinen wechselnden Freundinnen zu flirten. Jans Haushälterin Alma ist eine treue Anhängerin dieser Gratishörspiele; besonders mag sie das Liebeslied You are my inspiration, … (Du bist meine Inspiration, …), in das Brad immer den jeweils passenden Frauennamen einfügt, so dass es wie eine aus dem Stegreif komponierte Liebeserklärung wirkt. Jan jedoch ist verärgert und unterbricht das Liebesgeflüster immer öfter, weil sie selbst kaum noch Anrufe machen oder bekommen kann. Brad macht sich darüber lustig und hält Jan für eine neidische alte Jungfer.

Umso verblüffter ist er, als sich herausstellt, dass Jan die attraktive Blondine ist, die eines Abends in einem sehr rückenfreien Kleid auf der Tanzfläche eines Nachtclubs an ihm vorbeischwebt. Weil er als Brad Allen eine Abfuhr befürchtet, stellt er sich Jan als Rex Stetson, hochehrbarer und etwas einfältiger Geschäftsmann aus Texas, vor.
