Overview

Paroles et Musique is a 1984 French-Canadian film written and directed by Élie Chouraqui. This romantic drama stars the legendary Catherine Deneuve as Margaux, a modern woman balancing her career as a music producer, her marriage to Peter (Nick Mancuso), and her role as a mother. When Peter leaves for the United States to reassess their relationship, Margaux finds solace in her work and meets two inseparable musician friends, Jérémy (Christophe Lambert) and Michel (Richard Anconina). As Jérémy and Margaux develop a romantic connection, her daughter Charlotte (played by a young Charlotte Gainsbourg) warns her father, leading to a poignant exploration of love, family, and self-discovery.

The film is celebrated for its stellar cast, including Jacques Perrin, and its award-winning music by Michel Legrand, which earned the César Award for Best Original Score in 1985.
