Overview

"一个和八个" is a war drama film set during the Anti-Japanese War. The story follows an Eighth Route Army instructor, Wang Jin, who is wrongfully imprisoned alongside eight criminals. When they encounter Japanese invaders, Wang Jin inspires the prisoners to release themselves and fight together against the enemy. Throughout their arduous journey after breaking free, the prisoners rediscover their own values and humanity.

Directed by Zhang Junzhao and featuring cinematography by Zhang Yimou, this film is considered a landmark work of the Fifth Generation of Chinese filmmakers. It is adapted from the narrative poem of the same name by Guo Xiaochuan and showcases the spirit and resilience of the Chinese people during wartime.
