Overview

Directed by John Huston, "Moulin Rouge" is a poignant biographical film that explores the tumultuous life of French artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, played by José Ferrer. Set against the vibrant backdrop of the infamous Moulin Rouge nightclub in 1890s Paris, the film captures Lautrec's passion for art and his struggle for love amid the nightlife that inspires his most famous works.

As Lautrec sketches the club's dancers, he is commissioned by the club owner to create a promotional poster aimed at attracting high society patrons. However, his personal life is marred by a series of failed romantic endeavors, leading him to seek solace in alcohol. As his health declines, his art begins to gain the recognition it deserves, revealing the duality of his existence as both a celebrated artist and a tormented soul.
