English Summary:

Modigliani is a 2004 drama biographical film written and directed by Mick Davis and starring Andy García, Elsa Zylberstein, Omid Djalili, Hippolyte Girardot, Eva Herzigova and Udo Kier. It is based on the life of the Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani.

Set in Paris in 1919, this biopic presents the life of Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, centering, artistically, on his relationship to and rivalry with Pablo Picasso when they both lived in Paris. Modigliani, an Italian Jew from Livorno, has fallen in love with Jeanne, a young and beautiful French Catholic girl. The couple has a child, and Jeanne's bigoted father sends the baby to a faraway convent to be raised by nuns. Modigliani is distraught but needs money to rescue and raise his child. Paris' annual art competition is in the offing. Prize money and a guaranteed career await the winner.

Arriving like a comet, he danced on tables, drunk with passion for life and art and his ending was the tragedy of true genius like Van Gogh and Mozart. He was Modigliani. Paris 1919. Two men - artists, Amedeo Modigliani (Andy Garcia) and Pablo Picasso (Omid Djalili) have a bitter rivalry fuelled by brilliance, arrogance and passion. But Modigliani also has another passion in his life, Jeanne Hebuterne (Elsa Zlyberstein), a beautiful Catholic girl whose only fault in her father s eyes was to fall in love with Modigliani, a Jew. This is the remarkable story of Modigliani s brilliant but tortured genius and the great conflicts of passion he had to face. This is the true story of one amazing man and one of the greatest love tragedies in art history.
