Overview
Tutu is a groundbreaking album by jazz trumpeter Miles Davis, originally released in 1986. Known for its fusion of jazz, funk, and electronic elements, the album marked a new chapter in Davis’s career. With Marcus Miller serving as the primary composer and producer, Tutu features Davis’s iconic trumpet playing over a backdrop of funk rhythms and synthesizers. The album was recorded at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles and Clinton Recording in New York, except for the track "Backyard Ritual," which was recorded at Le Gonks in West Hollywood.
The album earned Miles Davis the 1986 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Performance, Soloist, cementing his legacy as one of jazz’s greatest innovators.
The 2011 reissue includes a second disc featuring a live performance from the Nice Festival, France, which includes previously unreleased tracks by the Miles Davis Octet.
