Recorded in November and December 2019 at the Philharmonie de Paris!
Richard Strauss immense oeuvre is no longer in need of introduction, yet part of his chamber music repertoire remains ignored: this is the reason for the latest album by OFF, a group of chamber musicians from the Orchestre de Paris. Original pieces and transcriptions such as Till Eulenspiegel, einmal anders! or Metamorphosen are intermingled, paying a brilliant tribute to the German composer.
Richard Georg Strauss (German: [ˈʁɪçaʁt ˈʃtʁaʊs]; 11 June 1864 – 8 September 1949) was a German composer and conductor best known for his tone poems and operas. Considered a leading composer of the late Romantic and early modern eras, he has been described as a successor of Richard Wagner and Franz Liszt. Along with Gustav Mahler, he represents the late flowering of German Romanticism, in which pioneering subtleties of orchestration are combined with an advanced harmonic style.

Richard Strauss (1864 –1949) is one of those composers the full wealth of whose production is not well-known. Although many
of his operas and symphonic poems do appear on the stages of theatres and concert halls, his chamber music is too often ignored.
Yet from sonatas to serenades for wind instruments – including pieces for strings and piano, winds and piano, strings alone, and strings
and winds – he composed works for a great variety of musical formations. This album wishes to present part of this lesser known repertoire, by
bringing together such works as the Capriccio, for string sextet; Till Eulenspiegel, einmal anders!
transcribed for violin, double bass, clarinet, French horn and bassoon; the Metamorphoses for string septet, and the Serenade, thus interweaving
original pieces, transcriptions and works embodying a truly orchestral dimension.
