John Lee Hooker and Furry Lewis represent generational markers in the development of traditional blues in Memphis and Mississippi. Furry, born around the turn of the century,incorporated ragtime, ballads and other types of secular black music in his repertoire along with the blues. John Lee Hooker, born in 1917 in the heart of the Mississippi delta developed a unique approach that became one of the new building blocks of rock and roll, and as a blues survivor he enjoys new found popularity among younger generations of blues players.
The "skinny" is presented on the life stories and musical history of these two rhythm & blues giants as part of the Masters of the Country Blues series. Features John Lee Hooker with his unique interpretations of Mississippi Delta blues and Furry Lewis, one of the original Delta Bluesmen, with his smooth style on slide guitar.
