Symphony No. 6 in A minor “Tragic” by Gustav Mahler is a symphony composed between 1903 and 1904 .
From the Fifth Symphony onwards , Mahler took another direction by renouncing not only the human voice but also the programs intended to facilitate the understanding of his works.
Compared to previous symphonies, it can be thought of as a return to the classical form in four movements. However, when listening to the work, one is impressed by the dimensions of the finale which lasts at least half an hour, or even up to forty minutes. Additionally, Mahler repeatedly wavered on the order of the movements in between, placing the andante before the scherzo , then returning to the original order scherzo then andante .
