Postage stamp issued by Hungary in 1925. It commemorates the 100th anniversary of the birth of Jókai Mór, a Hungarian novelist, dramatist, journalist, and politician who was one of the most popular and prolific writers of the 19th century. The text lists the name of the country, the name of the author, and the dates of his birth and death. The stamp features a portrait of Jókai Mór in a circular frame, surrounded by laurel wreaths and flowers. The portrait is based on a photograph by Adolf Dauthage from 1872 or 18731.

Jókai Mór was born on February 18, 1825 in Komárom, a town on the border of Hungary and Slovakia. He studied law and literature in Pápa and Pest, and began his literary career with his first novel, Hétköznapok (Weekdays), in 1846. He became involved in the Hungarian Revolution of 1848-49 as a supporter of Kossuth Lajos, and married Laborfalvi Róza, a famous actress, in 1848. He wrote many novels, short stories, plays, and essays that reflected his patriotic and romantic views, as well as his interest in history, folklore, fantasy, and social issues. Some of his most famous works include A kőszívű ember fiai (The Sons of the Stone-hearted Man), Az arany ember (The Golden Man), Egy magyar nábob (A Hungarian Nabob), A tengerszemű hölgy (The Lady with the Sea-green Eyes), and Törökvilág Magyarországon (The Turkish World in Hungary). He was also active in politics as a member of parliament and a leader of the opposition party. He died on May 5, 1904 in Budapest, and was buried in the Fiumei Úti Sírkert (Kerepesi Cemetery).

The stamp is part of a series of stamps that celebrate Hungarian culture and history. The other stamps feature Petőfi Sándor, Arany János, Liszt Ferenc, Erkel Ferenc, and Kossuth Lajos.
