The Creative Youth Competition and Exhibition was an annual event that was organized by the Hungarian Young Communist League (KISZ) from 1974 to 1989. The event aimed to encourage and showcase the artistic and scientific talents of young people in Hungary. The participants could submit their works in various categories, such as painting, sculpture, photography, literature, music, film, theater, architecture, design, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and computer science. The best works were selected by a jury and exhibited in various venues across the country. The winners also received prizes and recognition from the state and the public.
The stamp that you wrote on was issued by Hungary in 1981 to celebrate the 8th edition of the Creative Youth Competition and Exhibition. The stamp features the artwork of Varga Pál, a Hungarian painter and graphic artist who was born in 1906 and died in 1987. The stamp has a value of 2 forints and depicts a stylized image of a young man holding a paintbrush and a palette. The stamp also has the inscription “ALKOTÓ IFJÚSÁG PÁLYÁZAT ÉS KIÁLLÍTÁS 1981” or “CREATIVE YOUTH COMPETITION AND EXHIBITION 1981” in Hungarian and English.
The stamp is part of a series of four stamps that depict different aspects of Hungarian history and culture. The other stamps feature coins, medals, and seals.
