Ever since the time of the Great Cataclysm, the Arkadians have lived deep in the center of the Earth. They believed they were the only survivors of this great devastation. Their civilization thrived under the power of their sun, the Tehra... until it began to fail. In desperation, the children of Arkadia broke the law and entered the forbidden Archives, searching for a solution. What they discovered gave them hope. Anxiously, they used their special powers and created a messenger to the people above. They named her Arkana.

Les Mondes engloutis est une série télévisée d'animation française en 52 épisodes de 26 minutes, créée par Nina Wolmark qui en a écrit la plupart des scénarios et dialogues. Christian Grenier, Joëlle Wintrebert et Michel Jeury ont également participé à l'écriture des scénarios. Les personnages ont été créés et dessinés par Patrick Claeys pour le studio France Animation. Les autres dessinateurs principaux sont les frères Gaëtan et Paul Brizzi, Didier David dit Cromwell et Christian Lignan.

Az elsüllyedt világok (eredeti cím: Les Mondes engloutis) 1985-től 1987-ig futott francia televíziós rajzfilmsorozat, amelynek az alkotói Nina Wolmark és Gilbert Wolmark, a rendezője Michel Gauthier, a zeneszerzője Vladimir Cosma.

A nagy világrengés Arkadiát a föld alá temette. Azóta Arkadia lakói a föld alatt élnek. Múltjukat elfelejtették, mert őseik így akarták. Egyszer napjuk, a Shagma beteg lett. Ekkor Arkadia gyermekei bemerészkedtek a múzeumba, ahová addig tilos volt belépniük. A múltjukról felfedeztek néhány adatot, a Shagma meggyógyítására azonban nem találtak megoldást. A gyermekek megalkották, majd a Föld felszíne felé küldték követüket, Arkanát.
