Overview

On April 8, 1972, one year after the death of Igor Stravinsky, a historic memorial concert was held at the Royal Albert Hall under the baton of Leonard Bernstein. Widely considered one of the most influential conductors of the 20th century, Bernstein led the London Symphony Orchestra and The English Bach Festival Chorus in a powerful tribute to Stravinsky's legacy.

This electrifying concert includes three of Stravinsky’s masterpieces: The Rite of Spring, the groundbreaking ballet that redefined orchestral music; Capriccio for Piano and Orchestra, featuring soloist Michel Béroff; and the deeply spiritual Symphony of Psalms. Bernstein described this concert as an homage to Stravinsky's universality, choosing works that showcase the extraordinary range of Stravinsky’s art.

Due to the age of the footage, portions of the Symphony of Psalms visual performance could not be restored. However, these sections have been replaced with images of Bernstein's annotated score, offering rare insight into his interpretative approach. The audio performance remains fully intact.
