1947. A második világháború után Pierrot és barátai Párizs utcáin garázdálkodnak. Bankot rabolnak, mulatni járnak, élvezik az életet. Pierrotnak minden sikerül, így egyre jobban elveszti maga felett a kontrolt. Beleszeret egy lányba, Marinette-be, aki őrülten szereti őt, de a férfinak ez sem elég, számára már nincs visszaút a polgári életbe. A rendőrség már a banda nyomában, a kelepce záródik. Pierrot kénytelen szembeszállni velük...
