Overview
This La Scala Opera Collection presents two timeless operas: Puccini's La Fanciulla del West and Cilea's Adriana Lecouvreur, both starring legendary singers and conducted by some of the greatest maestros of the 20th century.
In "La Fanciulla del West", Puccini transports us to the Wild West, where Minnie, the only woman in a mining camp, tries to protect her happiness against all odds. Placido Domingo shines as Dick Johnson (Ramerrez), with Mara Zampieri as the strong-willed Minnie and Juan Pons as the villainous Jack Rance. Conductor Lorin Maazel leads this evocative 1991 production.
"Adriana Lecouvreur" tells the story of a famous 18th-century French actress caught in a web of love and jealousy. Mirella Freni delivers an unforgettable performance as Adriana, alongside Peter Dvorsky as her lover Maurizio, Count of Saxony, and Fiorenza Cossotto as the manipulative Princess. Gianandrea Gavazzeni conducts this elegant production.
