Star dancer and dance teacher, Alexandre “Sacha” Kalioujny was born in Prague in 1923 to Russian immigrant parents. After a brilliant career with Serge Lifar's Ballet de l'Opéra national de Paris, he was appointed dance teacher at the Nice Conservatory. In 1970, he was called back to the Opera by all the Stars to ensure their class. He then perfected a working method prized by dancers, guaranteeing flawless technique and sovereign mastery of movement. In 1985, Rudolf Nureyev, then Director of Dance, planned a book on his classes, but died before he could complete this work. Some thirty-five years later, this film is conceived as the living memory of his favorite exercises, reconstituted by his former students, the Star Dancers Élisabeth Platel and Charles Jude, and performed under their watchful gaze by the little rats of the School. of Dance of the National Opera of Paris.
