„Dieses Gebot der Nächstenliebe machte Christus zu seinem charakteristischen Gebot“! und wollte selbst ihm eine neue und auch reichere Bedeutung verleihen: „Wann ihr etwas auch nur einem von diesen meinen geringsten Brüdern getan habt, habt ihr es mir getan.“ (Mt 25, 40)
Die Kirche wird zu allen Zeiten an diesem Liebeszeichen erkannt. Es ist nicht bloß eine ihr eigene, von Christus aufgetragene Pflicht, sondern mehr noch „ihr unveräußerliches Recht“, das sie damit in Anspruch nimmt.
