Overview
"Kingdom Come" is a 2001 comedy-drama film directed by Doug McHenry. The film tells the story of the Slocumb family, who must come together after the death of a family member, Woodrow "Bud" Slocumb. Despite Bud's passing, the family members grapple with their mixed feelings about him, as he is not remembered fondly by many.
The film opens with Raynelle (played by Whoopi Goldberg), Bud's wife, who displays a rather nonchalant attitude towards her husband's death from a stroke. Ray Bud (portrayed by LL Cool J) is a recovering alcoholic struggling with his father's death, especially given their tumultuous relationship. His devoted wife, Lucille (played by Vivica A. Fox), does her best to support the family while yearning for a child of her own.
Junior (played by Anthony Anderson) has squandered his money on a failed invention, and his outspoken wife, Charisse (played by Jada Pinkett Smith), is no support during tough times. After Junior's infidelity, Charisse often reminds him that she could have married his wealthy lawyer cousin, who himself has marital troubles with his wife Juanita (played by Toni Braxton).
The family dynamic is complicated further by Marguerite (played by Loretta Devine), a devout and overbearing mother who frequently refers to her wayward son Royce (played by Darius McCrary) as "Demon Seed." She fears that he will end up in jail like his brother, adding tension to the family gathering as they all confront their issues amidst the backdrop of Bud's funeral.
