From the Inside Flap:
Although one of the shorter books in the New Testament the Letter of Jude is one of the least familiar. Yet it is impossible to read it without being impressed by its profound relevance to the twentieth-century church.
Jude was called to proclaim the gospel of Christ in context a marked by a rejection of authority and a growth of arrogance and false teaching. Stressing the critical nature of the times, he urged first-century Christians to be faithful to the truth, to build themselves up in their faith, and to be confident that God was able to keep them from falling.
In the hands of the gifted Puritan leader Thomas Manton (1620- 1677) the relevance of Jude is made crystal clear. He wrote as one who had faced opposition to the gospel, and had felt the power of Jude's Epistle in his own experience. His exposition is, in fact, a treasure house of Christian theology, as J.C. Ryle recognised when he said: 'If anyone wants to buy a good specimen of a Puritan divine, my advice unhesitatingly is "Let him buy Manton".
