Study of Christ in the Church Today
Christology is the church's study of Jesus of Nazareth. Often enough this or that miscarriage of mission or ministry in the contemporary church is blamed on an inadequate or erroneous grasp of Christology. Understand who Christ is to understand what the church must be. This prescription is so common that we should be suspicious. The two decades of teaching, research and writing on Christology that lie behind this bibliography have persuaded me that the prescription has the right ingredients, but in the wrong order. Understanding the church, the concrete historical church comes first.
