The Jerusalem Bible (JB) is one of the most respected modern Bible translations. This work is based on the work of French biblists and theologians who, in Jerusalem, founded a Bible School in Jerusalem for hundreds of years to study and study Bible philology, history and archeology.

After more than sixty years, a complete Catholic translation of the Scriptures into Czech is finally being published. The Jerusalem Bible - a top work of Catholic bibliography of the second half of the 20th century.

The Jerusalem Bible (JB) is one of the most respected modern Bible translations. This work was the result of the work of French biblical scholars and theologians who, in order to study the Holy Scriptures, founded a Bible school in Jerusalem one hundred and twenty years ago, in which they devoted themselves to study and research in the field of biblical philology, history and archaeology. On the basis of thorough and very precise exegetical work, a French translation was then created from the original languages – La Bible de Jérusalem (JB), 1st edition 1954, definitive 1973 – which became the basis for further editions in the main European languages. The main principle of its creators is not to introduce literary qualities into the biblical translation that are not inherent in the original. The school is very fruitful to this day.

For ordinary readers, two things are especially important.

First of all, the Jerusalem Bible also contains deuterocanonical books (Tobias, Judith, Esther, Book of Wisdom, Sirach, books of the Maccabees, etc.).

Secondly, the reader has at hand not only the text of Scripture, but also a set of ingeniously arranged introductions, commentaries and notes. The combination of translation and interpretation of the Scriptures belongs to the proven Catholic tradition. You need a good guide to travel through difficult biblical terrain. The Jerusalem Bible provides key insights for orientation in the biblical text, but does not burden with a long scope.

Po více než šedesáti letech vychází konečně úplný katolický překlad Písma do češtiny. Jeruzalémská bible - špičkové dílo katolické biblistiky druhé poloviny 20. století.

Jeruzalémská bible (JB) je jeden z nejuznávanějších moderních biblických překladů. Toto dílo vyšlo z práce francouzských biblistů a teologů, kteří kvůli studiu Písma svatého založili v Jeruzalémě před stodvaceti lety Biblickou školu, v níž se věnovali studiu a výzkumu na poli biblické filologie, historie a archeologie. Na základě zevrubné a velmi přesné exegetické práce vznikl pak z původních jazyků nejprve francouzský překlad – La Bible de Jérusalem (JB), 1. vydání 1954, definitivní 1973 –, jenž se stal základem pro další edice v hlavních evropských jazycích. Hlavní zásadou jeho tvůrců je nevnášet do biblického překladu literární kvality, které nejsou vlastní originálu. Škola velmi plodně působí dodnes.

Pro běžné čtenáře jsou důležité především dvě věci.

• Za prvé, Jeruzalémská bible obsahuje i deuterokanonické knihy (Tobiáš, Judit, Ester, Kniha moudrosti, Sirachovec, knihy Makabejské aj.).
   
• Za druhé, čtenář má po ruce nejen text Písma, ale i celek důmyslně uspořádaných úvodů, komentářů a poznámek. Spojení překladu a výkladu Písma patří k osvědčené katolické tradici. Na cestu náročným biblickým terénem je třeba mít dobrého průvodce. Jeruzalémská bible poskytuje klíčové poznatky k orientaci v biblickém textu, ale nezatěžuje dlouhým rozsahem.
